Awesome tool for learning geography June 22, 2008 Henry Tuttle (Dubai, UAE) 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I don't have kids. I actually bought this one for myself and my wife. We live overseas and don't want to be "ignorant Americans." We decided to learn all(?) the countries of the world. This is one of our primary tools for doing it. It's really a great tool for doing that.
Honestly, I can't tell you if it'd be a good tool for kids. We'll hold on to them and use them with our kids when we have some, but for now, I can only say it's a great way for adults to learn geography.
Great for puzzle-loving kids December 7, 2007 Anonymous (Charleston, SC United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
My son loves to do this puzzle. He received it as a gift for his 4th birthday, so he still needs adult assistance for some of the more intricate areas of the puzzle, but he can get most of it done all by himself already. He's learning to identify countries by their shape and remember where they should be placed relative to one another. In fact, I should probably do it more often myself, because his geography skills are already better than mine!
wonderful aid in learning Europe June 16, 2008 R. Snyder (Gillett, PA USA) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a sturdy cardboard puzzle that should last a long time with normal wear. The individual countries of Europe are not tabbed (like traditional puzzle pieces) which makes assembling more tricky and the student really needs to have an idea of where each country goes. This also makes it possible for the teacher to remove one or two countries after the puzzle has been assembled and then quiz the student on which country/ies are missing. There are a number of different games a teacher could come up with on their own (unfortunately, they don't include ideas with the puzzle) to increase the usefulness of this puzzle, making it something the student won't tire of after just assembling it a few times. The puzzle is also large enough that the tinier countries (like Luxembourg and Lichtenstein) aren't just dots, even though they are connected to neighboring countries. Most of the countries, however, are an individual puzzle piece. I used it with the excellent resource GeoSongs by Audio Memory and my sons sing the Europe songs while finding those pieces. I think the puzzle was well worth the money and something that can be used by a creative parent/teacher in many different ways.
Educational and Fun at the same time! October 7, 2008 Christopher Schaefer (Maryland) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My son is 7 and he received this as a gift for his birthday. It has opened him up to a love of geography and an interest in the world that I hadn't seen in him before. Not only did this puzzle introduce him to the countries of Europe, but it also served as a jumping off point for his interest in history - it inspires questions about why these countries are shaped the way they are, why their names are similar, etc.etc.etc - it has opened doors to all sorts of other knowledge, while at the same time providing the challenge and fun of a toy. I just ordered the Asian version for his brother.
