Just right January 10, 2010 J. Housum-Stevens (Lincoln, ME, USA) I was looking for a puzzle for my clever nephew aged 4, who has moved well beyond 24 piece puzzles. The puzzle business is a bit frustrating - there are 24 piece puzzles, then they jump to 60, then to 100, 200 and on up. Who decided these numbers, and are they based on child development research? Anyway, as with so many other M and D toys, this one is wonderful - well made, with sturdy wooden pieces and a wooden tray, challenging without being frustrating, visually interesting, and reasonably priced. It is the ONLY puzzle I could find with a number of pieces between 24 and 60 - it has 48. The tray makes it perfect for putting together on any surface, and we even used it for another puzzle that was made of thinner cardboard pieces and was too flimsy to do on a carpet. This was a hit in every way, and will most surely last through to the next nephew and beyond.
Great puzzle! January 11, 2010 JohnnyC (Alexandria, VA (USA)) Santa Claus brought this to our almost-4-year old son this past Christmas, and it is a great puzzle.
Very sturdy, the pieces fit together with precision, and the scene is colorful and interesting. What I like best is the fact that this is a difficult puzzle, yet the design, if you look at it, gives many clues to help the child figure it out on his/her own. You can knock 5 pieces out by doing planet earth, and other small batches of pieces here and there, until he realizes he's done almost 40 pieces and is in the home stretch.
I agree fully with the previous reviewer. 48 pieces is an excellent interim puzzle size, big enough to challenge, yet not overwhelm.
It has been a real joy watching our son -- who also likes the space shuttle and outer space, I should add -- learn how to do this puzzle himself.
And $9.99 for a quality toy like this is a steal!
space puzzle February 11, 2010 Ellen M. Berry (Dunkirk, MD) Purchased as a gift for our friends' daughter. She loves the puzzles. She is 3 1/2 yo. Pieces are nice size for small hands.
Durable Puzzle June 22, 2010 Faye L. Sitler (Omaha, Ne) Grandson loves these Puzzles as they are made of wood and hold up better than other childrens puzzles. He has several of these and really likes them.
Puzzle July 4, 2010 Diana My 3 year old loves this puzzle, but it's extremely hard since a lot of the planets are on separate pieces. It's quite a challenge and lots of fun. And I love the thick wooden pieces that he can't tear apart.
